13/32 Done

Wow. One round of exams done already. I seem to be doing fairly well, which is a pleasant surprise I must say, especially with the near-scare I had last semester. It’s a whole new situation. So far I’m about 50/50 for A’s. It seems like I either get an A or a B-. I’m not complaining or anything; it’s just a little strange.

By far the class I hate the most this semester is Virology. It’s not bad material, it’s just taught in such a terrible way. I mean, seriously? It’s already a topic that is pretty dry, do you have to make it worse by reading your slides word-for-word and going off on meaningless tangents? Man. Ironically, Virology is one of the classes I got an A in. I whole-heartedly maintain that the reason for that is because I have taught myself the material. I spend the classes going over objectives and filling in virus property tables. Fun Fun Fun till Daddy takes the textbook away.

Down on the Pharm

Although it’s only just the beginning of week three of the semester, it’s already time for the first test. My Pharmacology test is on Thursday. At least I guess that means I’ll look good for the first one, as Thursdays are our day to dress up and look professional. I feel pretty solid about the first test in there. I need to set the tone for the rest of the semester, and I think that I have a really good grasp on the concepts presented to us so far. Would it appear cocky if I thought I could “easily” get an A on it? I don’t think so. Merely confident.

I’ve set a bad precedent in semesters past of not doing so well on the first round of exams and then having to dig myself out of the hole that I created. I’m pretty determined not to allow that to happen this semester. I’m going to start things off on a good note, and I AM going to get that A.

Rory Storm and the Hurricanes

Ok. Something has been bothering me for a little while. I am probably the biggest Beatles nut you’re ever likely to come across. However, there is something that I just can’t stand anymore. Ringo Starr was not lucky. He didn’t happen to be in the right place at the right time. He was an excellent drummer. Not just capable or adequate, but excellent. No, he wasn’t the most talented drummer, say on the level of Keith Moon, but he was damn good. He blended his style to match each song, and I don’t really think you could ever ask anything more of your drummer. He was also hella good at keeping time. I’m pretty sure I could set a clock by his beats.

Whew, that’s been bothering me. Sorry. Promise it won’t happen again…not for a while anyway.

New Year, New Challenges

Well I survived last semester, despite all the challenges I encountered. I didn’t even really come close to failing anything like I feared, though I did manage to garner a C in Pathology. For some reason, I just couldn’t figure out my teacher. I thought I knew what he wanted, but each time a test came around, I couldn’t seem to crack that code. Last Spring, I had a different professor, and I did really well in his class. It just kind of baffles me.

With my break, I pretty much did nothing. I went home for a few days for Christmas, and I visited some friends for New Year’s Eve, but other than that, I stayed at home, didn’t work, and slept. Oh, I also shadowed for a few days in there, too.

I originally thought that this semester was going to be easier than last, and from a quick glance, it should be. The hardest part will be the test schedule. Looking over them, it seems they all come in flurries. Three here, five there, a dozen a couple weeks later. Ok, so that last part might have been an exaggeration, but they really do come in clumps. I’m not really looking forward to the test part, but I’ve really been waiting for a Pharmacology class. Drugs are probably the weak spot in my background. I never really got a chance to learn many of them.

Anyway, hopefully this semester is good to me, and full of blogworthy things to write about.
